The First Casino

The world’s first casino was built in Venice, the city in the heart of Italy, with gambling roots dating back to its earliest ancestors. Following the success of the first casino in the 17th century, others started to emerge.

Unfortunately, not all of them are still operational today, but we’ve found a few of the oldest ones.

Casino di Venezia

Casino di Venezia is an old casino that can claim to be the world’s oldest. Since it was established in 1638 in Venice, casino di Venezia has been open to the public, offering the best casino games ever.

The original building was situated in Ridotto of San Moise, and then later, the casino moved to Lido. Moving at the end of the 1930s, the casino owners found a quaint riverside location that fitted the ethos and spirit of the original venue.

In today’s Casino di Venezia, you will find traditional games like poker, roulette, blackjack and poker. In addition, there are over 600 slot machines to enjoy.

Casino de Monte Carlo

Casino de Monte Carlo is one of the oldest and largest casinos in Europe, founded in 1863 under a previous name. It changed its name ‘to Monte Carlo’ to honour Prince Charles III, who was instrumental in the casino’s growth.

Casino Baden-Baden

Casino Baden-Baden is a popular casino in the town of Baden-Baden in Germany. It was opened in the 1820s and 1830s. Its location allows it to host events and conferences for the locals. It also has a lot of historical weight, possibly dating to the Roman Empire.

Crockford’s Club

Crockford’s Club is situated in the heart of London Mayfair. It was founded in the 1820s and claimed to be one of the oldest.

The casino was once a private members’ club mostly visited by powerful players and decision-makers rather than the rich and famous. Because of its past, it was forced to close and open several times in the 20 and 40s. It later shut its doors permanently in 1970.

Golden Gate Casino

Golden Gate Casino was the first casino built on the Las Vegas strip. It was opened in 1906 and operated for a few years until a state gambling ban took effect in 1909.

The casino reopened in 1931 and changed its name to Sal Sagev. Then later renamed again to Golden Gate Hotel and Casino. The place is renowned for its unique shrimp cocktails that have been on the menu for almost 60 years.

Casinos have been around for quite some time now. Many old casinos are still operational and offer a unique playing experience to gamblers who flock towards legitimacy and gambling in its purest format.
